Consultation Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for Civil Society Space Report  (April 2017)

The OHCHR organized a consultation in early 2017 for input for the High Commissioner’s Civil Society Space Report (forthcoming), which will ‘compile information on procedures and practices in respect of civil society involvement with regional and international organizations […] and the contribution of civil society to their work and challenges and best practices’.

The Task Team offered the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation as a model for institutionalized engagement of civil society organizations (CSOs). The GPEDC recognizes CSOs as key actors and partners in development, not only on paper but also in its operations.

Consultation Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR): how to create and maintain space for civil society (September 2015)

In early 2015 the OHCHR organized a consultation on how to create and maintain space for civil society to inform an OHCHR report to the Human Rights Council (see Human Rights Council resolution 27/31).

In response to the High Commissioner’s question What is “enabling”? What does it mean to “create” and “maintain” space? the Task Team offers its conceptualization of what comprises an enabling environment for CSOs. In addition the Task Team Contribution offers examples of good practices and practical examples of how to create and maintain space for CSOs.
